"Ménara Echecs Club" and Callson, in the same time as the first anniversary of the club, sign an agreement on the organization of the 1st International Chess Tournament Marrakech.
Tournament schedule is finalized as well as prizes. Maximum of 150 players will get a confirmation by email. A simultaneous play for women is also scheduled on July 2, 2010. |

It is with great pleasure and an intense emotion that we now offer the first international tournament of Marrakech.
Menara Chess Club convinced us of the importance and desirability of a meeting of international scope. Callson said “yes”, together with more and more numerous, varied and motivated partners.
We finally want only one thing: a great Chess festival in Marrakechi country; an unforgettable experience that unifies players, fans, media associations and individuals during 7 days.
July 2nd is also a spotlight on Moroccan women, whose undeniable chess potential balances equality in our resolutely moderate Muslim country.
Who better than a great champion to testify...

With these touching words, Mrs.Judit Polgar, the best female player of all time, will honor us with her presence friday, July 2, 2010 for simultaneous chess games with 20 Moroccan female chess players!

The story begins with a meeting of a Chess Club's President driven by a sincere desire to promote the noble game, with experienced field men. Mr. Arif Said was successful, because there are men like this whose kindness and humility transcend the walls, in stimulating each of us.
Until March 2010, only Mr. Said Zinoun, of Zinoun Riad of Marrakesh, had actively supported the fledgling club. From meetings to phone calls, real actors opened channels we thought out of reach ...
I think especially of Christophe Leroy, organizer of Lyon Olympique Echecs, Mr 24h/7d who is by himself a lesson of pragmatism in associations, I think of Henri Assoignon , 'invisible man', editor in Europe-Echecs who has not counted his time, I mean of course GM Bachar Kouatly, who announced the event from Sofia’s World Championship in May 2010’s!
We”ve been also honoured for Alain CHAVET”s contribution as he made available for free his famous chess boards for the tournament. We strongly hope for his presence in late June!
Each step to the target is source of indescribable pride, that of Moroccan people.
